Hey there,
Was chatting with Banpei & Mux at the weekend as you do
mentioned to them that I had bought a Chowini Race car.
Said I would post it up so here goes.
Built from a brand new never registered 1983 Corolla GTV Levin.
The car was built by Toms for Team Chowini in Hong Kong, the car was one of many AE86 in the Chowini Team.
It was intended to be used in the 1986 Macu GP, but the driver didn’t have the funds. So the car was tested and setup but then never used so is very low mileage. Mileage on the clock is 17 miles.
Interior
• OMP bucket seat
• Schroth 6 point harness, 3 in belts (Brand new)
• Electric plumbed in fire extinguisher
• Alcantera covered dash board
• Modified steering column
• Quick release steering wheel
• Chowinis leather steering wheel
Engine
• Lightened and balanced throughout
• 40mm Crank
• TRD rods
• Arias forged slipper pistons 11:1cr
• Modified big port head
• TRD big valves & springs
• Underbucket shims
• Camshafts 320 in & 304 ex both 11mm lift
• Standard plenum (re-worked)
• Standard cast ex manifold (re-worked)
• Silicone Samco hoses
• New swirl pot
• New shorter height uprated radiator
• TRD ecu with removable eprom
• Toda chrome alloy lightened flywheel with integral ring gear.
• Reduction gear starter
• Paddle clutch
• Remote oil filter
• Large oil cooler
Suspension Front
• Rose jointed TRD bottom arms and lateral rod
• TRD 2 ¾ coilover 8 way adjustable struts
• Adjustable top mounts
• Roll center adjusters
• Cusco quick rack
• K-Max uprated anti roll bar
Rear
• TRD rear springs (Light weight stressed versions)
• TRD blue 8 way adjustable dampers
• Std anti roll bar
• Rose jointed trailing arms and panhard rod
Brakes
• AP vented disks on aluminium bells
• AP 4 potcalipers
• Adjustable bias pedal box
• AP short cylinders with remote reservoirs
• Standard disks & calipers on the rear
Transmission
• TRD close ratio gearbox
• TRD quick shift
• 2 – piece propshaft
• TRD 2 way LSD (shimmed to 80%)
• 4.8 cwp
• Small halfshafts
Driven her at 1 trackday so-far, a pure experience.
Not allowed to run the N2 though as its so loud.
Next trackday is in 2 weeks

I dont know to be honest Banpei,
Its done about 150km (1 trackday)
I disconnected the speedo, didnt want to as none of the previous owners did.
I wanted to keep the clocks as I will never again see such a sight.
I know where there is a set of chowini clocks which I will eventually buy & but up my own mileage.
The mileage was genuine, when the team was sold off (the owner moved to Canada) only 2 cars were retained, the 1600 macau gp 3 times winner & this car as it had no mileage.
These 2 cars were bought off the owner in Canada & transported to the UK by 2 good friends of mine, the other car is in N2 spec.

nice! Old Group A car right?
hmm Never seen a rollcage with out a harness bar.. *shrugs
Anyway. Could you give us the specifics on the spring rates and the front antiroll bar? Also.. what kind of wheels are those? They look brilliant!
Also, love the tachometer.

Very good,
This is not the original cage, the original was an aluminium rear x sectional , couldnt event get you into a trackday these days.
Will have to get the verniers out on the antiroll bar, its got a bigger diametre.
The rims were made specifically for team Chowini, Peter Chow Macau now of Toronto, very sucessful race driver himself, once had a Mr Spoon drive his 86s

I have 2 of the Australian GpA sprinters plus GpA TOMS AE2 . I have been involved with these cars for many years. The previous owner of this Chowini car contacted me several times and I pointed out that many of its features were never allowed in GpA, which had standardised international rules, so its unclear how it got that way. Beacuse it appears to have never raced as an international GpA car, it could never get a FIA historic log-book. Despite that, its an interesting bit of history. Where are the other chowini cars???
Does anyone know of any other genuine GpA cars??

hey~ Sweet car!
Would there be anyway I could talk you into taking a picture of your front control arms? particularly the rose jointed connections for the camber?
