My blacktop has been smoking a little bit since last summer. during the winter i tought that i need to change the valve seals. well, things slipped a
little further. here is a few pictures of how far i am.
first i took off the cylinder head
AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

here it is, on table
AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

PO rods and wiseco pistons. made in special maesurements for blacktop
AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

new cams. duration 291 valve lift 11.00mm
AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

new bilstein shocks
AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

new pistons need to be fitted to my old block, so the block is now in (driller), or what ever that word is Confused my friend is doing the cylinder head by using the special bench (is it flow bench). after christmast i should get the parts back home Thumbsup

Did you go this far, becource it was not the valve seals?

I also have a blacktop, that smokes a bit sometimes, but itīs really random when it does(mostly when driving slow)
and never at wot
i will get the block bored, and a set of gze pistons put in for forced induktion.
But i will not take the head apart if itīs not the valve seals!

I think they are originally from an old rear-wheel drive Mitsubishi Galant.

i think you should buy the full gasget kit, because it includes the valve seals and it costs as much as loose valve seals. in finland pay for it 196€ and here is a part number 04111-16330, TRD rod bearings 13281-AE902-05

project goes on. I got the parts back home, except the cylinder head, wich my friend still works on. valve face angles and seats are now modified. I prebuild the engine a little bit to get measure how much the pistons comes out from the edge of block. now that i know that i have to calculate the compression ratio. iīm going to use 12,5:1 compression ratio. here is a picture of it.

AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

I ordered stiffer valve springs from super tech, which should arrive next week. i also ordered Hestec, wich is free programmable engine control unit. what iīm still missing is trd cylinder head gasket and adjustable camsaft timing pulley. luckuly i can get both of them in finland. today i did some painting. i paint few engine parts. color is toyota 1D2

AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

next week my friend is going to paint my engine room as same color as the car. color is toyota 1E5. front coilovers are now fitted in the old "wheel poles" here is a bad picture taken with my phone
AE86 : Projects > AE86 20V blacktop

At the moment iīm starting to do some serious POWER drinking. Happy new year for everybody Wave

Hello Hopi

Nice project man!

Did you change something in the cyl.head (besides the valve springs) because of the high lift cams? e.g. valve train kit, valves or something like this?
