BTW, the hammering bit involves a metal pipe or broomstick of some sort so you can reach in there...doubt if it would have done any good..Your starter would have been fried if it was stuck and you push-started the car.

Nope. My sister in law has graduation today, so I don't have time today.

Fittings are aftermarked from a company that has specialized in starter rebuilds, but bought at Toyota. If you are not able to get them order this part number: 28226 - 72080 (Actually for E101, but they should fit the E86 as well) Problem is that this way you are not only getting the fittings, but some extra parts which makes it more expensive
Hope this helps

Thanks Jan, but I just discovered that I have a old type starter, so I can't use this kit.
But when I opened this sucker up, I saw a lot of old grease and some dirt on gear and electrical parts, did a good cleaning job and voila starter fixed.
At least for now.
This cost me 0.
Thanx anyway.

The old starters are pretty simple to work on...the only things that tend to wear out are the bearings and stator brushes. I just wish they had a bit more oomph during these cold days of the year when the battery is weaker.
@LevinGT: have you checked if the bearings are still okay? they are pressed into the end caps I think..mine where ground down to a thin shell.

You need to have the new ones fitted at a shop. I just bugged the local alternator repair/refurbishing business in Spijkenisse about it and they pressed some new bearings in for me after a few grunts from the owner of the store.
Final cost was 5 euro's for the 2 new bearings. They can also replace the stator brushes if they are almost worn out..but mine where still fine.

I had problem with starting, turned out to be the ignition thing behind the barrel, nothing to do with the starter at all.
Only found this out after doing up starter, new solenoid and new relay.

I have a simular problem...
If i turn the Key to start, the starter turns, the engine light turns OFF or it flickers...
Donīt know what to do!
I checked and reworked the ground connections, the batterie is full, fuel is runing!
And sometimes the engine stops while driving...
Thank you
Greetings
Martin

Seemed to help for a day, prob back again. If i give the key a good rattle it seems to start, some times starts first turn, other times might take 15-20 turns of key. Could barrel wear be a prob?
So far changed new circuit open relay, new starter bushes(it looks spot on), new solenoid, new key

@boffin, I'd check the wiring to the ignition for slightly loose contacts... while your at it unplug the ignition barrel and measure it through with a multimeter. If it only works intermittantly, replace it I guess. Use some contact spray on the connector terminals when you put it back together.

have had the same problem, tried testing alot of things (map-sensor,ECU,electrical wiring,...) eventually it was the fuelpump that didn't worked so good, it didn't make enough pressure while it was working & sometimes it worked great and after a few km it stopped
so fitted a new one (walbro) & engine works even better
don't know if yours is still stock?

I have a problem with engine starter, but not with starter but with part which move starter gear into flywheel and make a contact betwen + pole of batery and starter motor, you know, smal piece which is screwed for starter.
Do someone know from which Toyota engines I can fit in starter or just part that moves starter gear?

Congrats
Do you have a partnumber? Might be a good one if others are searching for it.

No, sorry.
I buy part in http://www.jcauto.pl/
Just bring old one, and salesman go back, and do a search and that is it.
They are very good with prices here in Croatia and we also have some discount.
