Sometimes to go forward with a project you have to go backwards

A nude N2 ae86!
AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

Here are a couple of photos showing the last of the fabrication work.
The dry sump support base

AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

The front floor has been redesigned to take the Tilton floor mount pedal box

AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

Now with remote reservoirs and the floor mount this frees up the right side of the engine bay so there will be plenty of clear space for an air box, the hole for the brake booster has been filled in.

AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

Back to where it started ! Moved into my other paint and prep workshop and back in the rotator ready for me to start priming and sanding the body for paint finally!!!!!!!
I hope to have this painted in the TRD colours in the next few weeks.
Then I will be able to bolt things in to stay!

Well it's not Christmas but a few more goods arived in the post today!

AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

I can now get on to making my dash to take these gauges plus a few other things . As there will be no pasengers seat it gives me more space to shape the dash, which I will make from carbon fibre , I am going to build a mould from plywood and fibreglass , it will be quite different to the original dash.

This is the best project I have seen for a long time, mayby the best ever Thumbsup
I have the exact same wet dream with my project, but I think I will keep it a bit more down to the eath Wink

But why not fit TRD gauges instedt of Auto Meter? And build a N2 look dashbord?

Hi thanks for the comments ,
I would like to fit TRD gauges to my dash but I haven't been able to find any at all , the problem with New Zealand is that we are so far away from the rest of the world , if I find some in the future the dash is something that will be an easy change .
Also with a very expensive motor, good easy to read gauges are a must !

I am delivering all the body work to the paint shop today , so some progress!

I have ordered my wheels to be made here they are 13 x 9 -20 for the rear and 13 x 8 -20 for the front , they are a proper 3 piece wheel so you can replace the inner or outer rim to make any offset you want . The centers will be painted the same silver as the car ,(not yellow!).
Again if I could find some genuine TRD rims I would have them but it is something that I can change later.

Are these made by Arrow Wheels? Very cool! So how do they come apart? I see no bolts. I would have thought you could have gone wider with the N2 kit? I have turned into a width whore though. Neutral This must be the correct fitment for N2 or something i guess.

These are a local built wheel that can be made up to 14 inch wide in 1/2 inch increments of off set

Well it seems like my painter is a bit busy at the moment , I know I should not have told him to fit it in between his other jobs!! So I have an empty space in my workshop floor while I wait .
I had some spare time in my work day today so the sheet of Lexan that had been sitting for a while turned into a full set of lightweight windows .
AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

I am still to sort out how I can make the drivers window wind up and down

Also I sent a pile of bolts and brackets to the electroplaters , so time to sort them out as well .
AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

Wheels are being made and they should be here in about 4 weeks , so maybe this car will go one day!!

Hi thanks for that , I saw those rims the other day, but they have the wrong pcd and are only 8" wide , I want 9" for the rear and 8" for the front but the same style as those .
Cheers

Well another weekend and a little more progress, I decided the rear side windows were going to need the black trim around the inside , so with some careful measuring and a sharp knife , the protective coating was cut back , the lexan sanded with 600 grit and painted black to look original.
AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

I have all the parts painted white back from the painters , front gaurds, bumpers, body kit, and bonnet , these have all come up looking better than new!

So while I'm waiting on the body this week , the gearbox will get it's TRD close ratio kit fitted. Kit number 33030-AE811

AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2
This is a old standard box that I will start with and strip it , fit all new bearings and syncro's , as you can see the TRD shaft's are splined , which is great if you break a gear you can replace only the damaged one .

AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

The diff is about to get the same treatment with a new TRD LSD and 5.3 crownwheel and pinion ,brand new axles , etc
AE86 : Projects > nzae86s TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2

So by the end of this week I should have the body back from being painted and ready to fit all the panels .(I thought that was going to happen last week!!!)
