Server outage on Friday 13th |
Fri Jun 13, 2008 2:17 pm by banpei
We had some server problems last night. After 2:00 am CET the server hanged and we could not reach it anymore. It must have been because today is Friday 13th!
Normally we have serial console access and a powerbar to powercycle the machine. Serial console didn't give me access since the machine hanged completely and the powerbar failed in shutting off the power.
Today someone from the hosting party manually restarted the server at 13:50 so it's back online and we only had just less than 12 hours of downtime!
Thanks to Niels for going through the trouble!

Shop news |
Thu Apr 24, 2008 9:15 pm by banpei
As you may already have read, Mux is moving to Australia in the next month or two. When we started the shop as an extension of the forum we did so because there was a need for a parts supplier in Europa, not because we're expert part sellers. We really went in this as an out of control hobby. It turned out that running such a shop takes much more time and risk then we ever expected. It has been loads of fun and we've learned a lot of good stuff.
With Mux leaving, it is impossible for Banpei to carry this weight on his shoulders. With more and more other parties (some full time established shops) entering the market the need for our little shop is diminishing as well. So we have decided its time to move on. shop.aeu86.org will close in due time, we will sell the stock we still have, possibly discounting certain products. We're also planning one or two one time offer things. However, once everything is gone thats that.
We WILL continue the forum, we WILL continue the commercial sales section for other vendors, and some of the smaller products (such as stickers) we will keep selling but not from our shop, but as part of forum merchandise.
So if you still want bushings, brakes, shocks, or other parts from our store. Be quick before it sells out for good!
You can find the current stock and prices here:

AE86 nominated as Japanese musclecar of the 80s |
Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:32 am by banpei
Jalopnik nominated in the PHD (Project Car Hell) the AE86 as musclecar of the 80s and it is nominated against the Mitsubishi Starion. Ofcourse we all know that almost all AE86s are project cars but to call them "from hell"!

| Jalopnik wrote: |
The AE86 is a pretty cool car, of course, but these days it's akin to what the '69 Camaro was to my generation: just about the only old car that every high-school kid can identify.

You can find (and vote) here:

Happy new year! |

Happy new year!!!!

Maybe a bit early, but in some parts of the world the new year has already started!
First of all I want to look back at the things happened in the past year:
- AEU86 opened the shop!
- Both Mux and I became a father: Mux has a daughter and I have a son!
- P-Nut became second overall in the European drift competition!
- AEU86 website got new makeover
- More manuals and write-ups were submitted by members!
Apart from that the community is doing very well. I got some figures to show that:
We did a total of 156 GB traffic in 2006 and 441 GB in 2007. That's an increase of almost 200%!
We had a total of 87106 unique visitors in 2006 and 146585 unique visitors during 2007.
We had a total of 12879272 page views in 2006 and 19557471 page hits during 2007.
814 of the 1853 members registered this year, so we almost doubled during this year!
And last but not least: we opened 2023 topics and posted 25109 posts this year!
Upcoming year looks very promising: we just got an email from the network provider that we're allowed to do 400 GB a month, so all the traffic we did last year would almost fit into one single month! Keep those pics of your projects coming!
I hope upcoming year will be just as great as last and go make something out of upcoming year!
