Widar, they have a special anti hydro-lock valve that prevents engine damage. They came up some time ago when the "AEM iceman" intakes were popular...you could route the intake anywhere you'd want though.
@Ian. The other K-series engine: the (caugh) Rover one..when properly built should be a ery good option as well. The 2.0l VHPD engine produces more then 220 bhp. Read somewhere that the dubious reliability was down to some subpar dowel pins (head/block). It should be way lighter then even the F series engine..saving you another 60kg's...has lots more bottom end torque as well....Worth investigating instead of just dismissing it immediately..60kg's is a LOT of weight...with proper parts you could probably get the hachi down to around 800kg's There are lots and lots of nice engines out there....Opel/GM ecotec springs to mind...have you seen what they achieve with those neon SR4 engines?
