As one of the moderators around here I should be ashamed of myself for the way I treated my hachi the past few years. I havent layed a finger on it in about two years, and must admit I havent had the urge.
Got accustomed to reliable boring FWD cars by now, but that's just because I learned my lesson with buying daily drivers (new-ish and reliable > older but more fun). Luckily I can pay some other guy to do the hard work for me, so that's exactly what I did. Here's what I found today: There's still loads to be done: The doors need a little bit of welding down below (comes standard on any old ae86). The chassis rails around the fuel tank have more in common with crisps than they do with solid steel. Some welding needs finishing up so it will look better when painted. After that the hard part comes... cleaning (especially getting the old coating from the floorpan), sanding, rustproofing, you name it. Tomorrow I will be ripping it's soul out (the 4age), because my bro's KE25 could do with a little poke at the moment. I intend to return it's original spirit to it once more when it's all painted. By this I mean it's original engine, in restored state (ebay ell-cheapo parts all the way, if it get's too boring with the low compression pistons I'll slap something else in there, or turbo it). But that's waaaayyyy in the future right now. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
