Engine stress at high speeds
Hello everybody!

My engine is 35 to 39 years of age. I have an original red-painted bluetop 4age. It still drives like a charm until 110 kph. After 110 KPH the engine starts getting shakier and experiences stress at 120-130 kph. What parts do I need to replace to make it drive like a charm at higher speeds?

Probably not your engine..if so, it would be RPM related, not car speed.
I would suspect my propshaft if I were you. Or your wheels, but you usually feel those in your steering wheel.

Can you give us some more specific information? Shakier at 120kph is kinda vague to narrow it down to one specific fault.

The engine also produces more sound. Perhaps it’s starting to overheat.

It gives me the impression that im driving 180 kph. Maybe this is part of how the engine is supposed to be or certain parts need to be replaced.

Most cars built around the time of the 86 are going to be unrefined at higher speeds.

Based on information given, I think the issue is unlikely to be related to the engine. I would start by getting the wheels balanced and then maybe replace the prop-shaft bearing.

You'll know if the engine is overheating, the car should have a temperature gauge.

Maybe you could compare the noise the engine makes with lower gears. At 120km/h your engine should be doing 4200 rpm in fifth (with the OEM 4.3). This should roughly be equal to 90km/h in third. So if your engine makes just as much noise (and is shaky) when cruising at 90km/h in third, it's the engine. If it's the engine, perhaps it's the T-VIS opening and closing regularly as 4200rpm is when it gets actuated by the ECU.

If it's really that bad and you really have no idea what's causing the issue, take the car to a specialist workshop if there are any local to you.
