Kida AE86 project finally under way [20V pwrd]
Okaaay, finally the engine is running properly and i can open a proper thread for it. The blacktop's been having an anomalous bogdown issue which was finally solved with a complete rerun of the vacuum hosing and it's now running better and getting used to the new setup. It took it about 2 weeks to go from its initial maps with the proper vacuum setup to the new ones with the major vacuum leak, let's hope it's going to be quicker about remapping itself this time =)

pics of the car as it was when it arrived:

Trying to sort the timing which was 10 degrees too advanced according to manual-stock-spec, i had to reach through the passenger compt. to reach the dizzy hold-down bolt since it was inaccessible from the engine bay:

Parts taken out and off into the garage:

More parts around and on the bench, for once used as a bench indeed =)

One of the biggest headaches - working through the wiring loom:

Kida AE86 project finally under way [20V pwrd]
Very happy that i can finally start driving it without worrying all the time. Autocross is in session, so i'll be looking to appear if not for round 1, then for the second 100%.
With the prospect of 86er's materials on the car at some future point, i'm indeed optimistic of the car's future =)

Ah, the sweet taste of failure. First day to work with the car and the fuel pump died on me. Upon further inspection the pump has 2 connectors going to it, one is 2port, the other one 3port. I guess the 3port is for the fuel tank level sensor, that one has a ground and two six-volt ports when disconnected, the 2-port i guess is the power to the pump, which should have 12V. It's dead - no voltage at all. I'm going to hunt for the break in the chain, but that's very discouraging. Since the wiring mess was fixed and the car was looking good and composed inside [what Mux may have been refering to as part of the 'messy' statement =))] the front right blinker has been working on and off every now and again and the left headlight is refusing to retract. I wonder if all those issues may have something to do with a broken relay or something... Ah, how i love blindfolded troubleshooting...

I'd start by looking at the circuit opening relay... I believe that's the one driving the fuelpump.

I will start with it tomorrow evening, but my main worry is now they have the pump wired for the MAP sensor, because the COR needs ground on pin 4 to open up for the fuel pump. On the 16v i believe that is provided by the start switch when cranking and by the AFM when air is flowing. MAP would have the same reading when the engine is not runnign and on WOT. There is, i believe, a pin on the ECU that is supposed to do the job, but that will be checked. Damn, my wiring sucks =/

Look it up in the euro manuals.. I believe the ones available for download are for MAP sensored cars.

Cheers!
You were 100% right, it is in there and i see it's wired over the Ignition switch, which is probably how mine was initially, hence the power to the fuel pump when ignition is turned on. Thank you!
