ignition timing problem
I 've just finished my engine rebuild and I have some ignition timing problem .
I've fixed new Catcams camshafts (260°/256°) with adjustable cam gears .
Both IN and EX cams are well timed (110° both , from TDC).
The distributor is well set( two marks aligned).
Yellow connector is shunted .
At idle , timing advance is at -(minus)5° (5° below tdc).That engine needs 10° at idle ....
The adjustment is at max . With the engine reving at 4800rpm , I have 29° timing advance .
I found the engine very slow , below 5000rpm, but much better at high revs.
Any help welcome

Double check if the cams are not turned "180 angle off" cam wheels.

First check jamie´s remark, then have another look at the distributor alignment, it may just be a tooth off, wouldnt surprise me since the drive gear on the new cams might be slightly different from stock.

hello,
Cam gears ok , well in place .Moving with one teeth before or after the stock distributor mark makes no solution.... the engine doesn't start!
still searching.....

did you put all the ground wiring?

Try to put the cams with stock alignment, and, its allways good to check again if the timing belt its ok.

Are you sure you have the right settings for dialing in your cams ???

yes , all ground wires are connected .
I'm sure about cams setting (both 110° from TDC) .
I've found a solution , by clocking the distributor a little and drilled the distributor "ears" fixing .
But it's still remaining mistery to have lost that 10° timing advance at idle .
I think , as it was sais that all that come from the Catcams product .
Will be soon fixed about reliability , as I'm rallying this week-end in Belgium (rallye de Hannut , small city between Liège and Bruxelles)

I got similar problem with the advance. It did not move nowhere from 20 degrees of advance even if service connections were attached. All grounds were good but i have painted the engine room and the coil did not get ground by its fixing bolts any more. Tongue .

I'm now riding with advance tuned by .....ears and it looks ok
