highest lift and duration possible for stock ecu
im trying to learn more about cams but i keep reading conflicting posts on what the stock ecu and shims can handle.

what is the highest duration of cams the stock ecu can handle and if you wanted to drive the car comfortably on the street?

what duration of cams is it that tvis becomes useless?

what is the highest lift the shims can take before you need underbucket shims?

if anyone wants to share their cam setup and what they use their car for as well that would be great.

thanks for the help.

I'm running Cat Cams 9.5mm lift 268 degree with a stock ecu.
I would say these are just beyond what the ecu can handle, the engine will not tick over below 1000rpm
Disconnecting the TVIS make quite a difference with these cams, TVIS seems to strangle the power.
Power is definately up on stock but to get the most out of them would require a programmable ecu.
Stock ecu rev limit is an issue with modified cams. no point in having power band that goes beyond 7700 rpm.
9.5mm lift is too much for stock shims, I'm using an under bucket type.

I also have 268 degree duration on a standard ECU but with 8mm lift. This runs fine but also at about 1000rpm.

The cam manufacturer (Wade) developed these in conjunction with Toyota Australia for MR2's and they claimed 270 degree was the maximum on standard ECU's

@ parrot, did they make much of a difference? Have a set in my sights same lift/duration

I have fwd car 4age tvis.
Mate, im running 10,3 lift 272 degree and 11,3:1 CR, underbucket shims and valve springs with stock ecu (i tried with AE86's ecu (w/o change the harness) and my ecu of celica). The idle is 1400rpm but when the light is turn on the idle very easy to "fall" and the engine is turning off. I adjusted the cam gears to have this idle because i had high idle. It was 1800rpm and when i raised the revs (ex 4000rpm) and when the revs fall the engine is turning off.
The car works fine on the highway but in the city i suffer to have stable idle.
I think the better solution for a stock ecu is 264 and 7,9 lift

They where properly setup by a senior Toyota mechanic (mate) with adjustable gears, reshimmed etc. To be honest I was disappointed. Has moved the power band fairly high up the range and the rev limiter is hit very quickly. Once they come in, everything goes crazy for a second then you have to change up. In other words, not very tractable on the street. If it was for the track with appropriate gearing and a higher rev limit, then they would be fine.

I have not dynoed it, but will be fitting a F-Con piggyback with slightly larger injectors when I find some time. Will be interesting to see what if any difference that makes.

My mates 256/264's are more impressive for street use I think.

Web camshafts.......

294 grind (NOT duration!) Duration @.50"(~1mm) 218 (equal to most other companies 256 type) Lift is 8.18mm

I've been running them for years....

those numbers are at the wheels.... pardon the "shallow" lines... but the dyno was set for 500hp Huh

Good numbers. So 130 hp crankshaft
With stock ecu? Idle?
