frame/chassis rails info
Hi all,
I recently purchased an 84 coupe, great car and in excellent condition, accept for the drivers side center section of the frame/chassis rail. I noticed that they look to be removeable/replaceable.

for a comparison, the passenger side

I noticed that they look to be removeable/replaceable.
Does anyone know where I could find some new stamped rails? OE or aftermarket? I thgought seeing that this is an International site, I would have a better chance at finding what I need
If not I found this searching for new rails. This is waaaay more involved but seems to be the best route for stiffness as well as handling.

Thoughts, opinions, critisism?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

most of the time people make them from scratch to suit the area needing replacement. They are fairly easy as long as you find a good sheet-metal brake.
Just as important in your case is to measure that nothing else has been bent and the chassis is still straight.

you can find the necessary measurements here:

The rails you found is VERY VERY good and stiff Smile (thats my car Smile )

Dont expect concrete-like stiffness from an AE86 chassis, but it can be made to respond really good Wink

BB,
Thats what I figured, considering how hard these guys are to come by. Thankfully a friend of mine runs a break press and is actually quite talented.
I'm just going to pray that my frame is straight, if not the seller will not be a happy camper.
Thanks for the links, do you happen to have any larger images? They are very very small.

Your car is amazing, it looks incredible. Nice work.
How was the process of fitting them up?
Was there a lot of cutting and grinding, then fit, cutting grinding then fit.
Do you have any other pictures of them?

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Random question. Has anyone attempted through the floor rails? Using tubing?

You can have that if you go crazy like Kimi (the 520hp 4agze guy):

(if you still can call that an AE86 chassis)

Thanks Project D for the high res pics and that amazing frame.
Do you know if he has a build thread in here? Or anywhere for that matter?
Thanks

After seeing the few that I have seen, they all use a rotisserie, I'm wondering if its possible to do in my driveway, hah.

Yes he have a thread here:
http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/--twincha...6--/t/7958

Most people do their "rotisserie" by themselves
It's the easiest way to work on the underneath of a car Smile

Link edited, now it works Wink (I don't know why I added a / at the end of the link...)

BTW, please don't call me PD, that mean gay in French Undecided
(and that's awkward)
You can call me ProD, PrD or Ludo instead
