ae86 knocking noise

hi,



im getting an annoying knocking sound coming from the front passenger side suspension area. only happens through a bumpy road. i've checked all the bushes and joints and seem ok to the naked eye. arb, tension rod, control arm, steering arm look to be ok. im running the greddy coilover setup (5 months old) seems fine.



however the camber plate joint area is free or seems kinda loose.



any help???

Have u inspeckt the upper "bearing from" body in struck tower. Or is the rubber bad on there?

make sure all bolt are tight, just grease / WD40 all of them, and then see what happens...

I had a similar problem, turned out the LH top nut that fixes the strut piston rod to the upper mount was loose i.e. there was a 2mm of clearance! Temporarily did it up finger tight to stop the noise and later put a spanner on it.

yes i had same problem too (with a Silvia s14a), and it was the top Suspension bolt. it was loose, had undone itself. so tighted it up and that was it...

Your Coilover insert may be loose, take off the coilover, loosen the spring & push/pull the shock rod, if it bangs then tighten down the cap which holds down the shock, I would try this 1st, that way you can check everything.

When the coilover is out, push/pull on the camber plate, if there is excessive travel, the spherical bearing may be gone, technotoytuning.com used to have a repair bearing kit
