Mine works too.

You don't need the set button to be pressed in order to adjust the time. I've done it a few times after disconnecting the battery...

No it's not! It is the set button yes, but you don't have to push it to adjust the time...

My drivers manual reveals it's meant for synchronizing your clock with the beep some radio stations broadcast every hour. If you press it the clock jumps to the nearest hour. (so press it at 13:57 and it jumps to 14:00, press it at 14:02 and it goes to 14:00 as well)

I beg to disagree, mine does not jump to the nearest hour, it just "unlocks" the other two buttons for use.. think they just use some kind of &gate in there.

Then there's probably an older and a newer type clock and they didn't know what to do with the set button in the newer type so they thought of this radio synchronizing button... If I had a scanner here I'd show you the text from my drivers manual, and it really does work that way in my car.
