Windshield Crack
So I found this vehicle and it is in very good condition interior and exterior. It has lots of new parts and runs well. The only issue is the windshield. It has a crack in it. It isn't that large and is on the passenger side. It is right under the wiper. I'm in canada I just want to know if this would pass safety testing or if would need to be repaired or replaced and how much would it cost if so. The guy said that the crack was formed in a way that would not spread. What do you guys think?

On modern cars the windshield is part of the frame rigidity. I don't think you would pass safety inspections with this at least not here in germany.

In Ukraine, if you have no money to replace windshield we're drilling small hole 0.5mm dia (half thickness of glass [sometimes work for laminated windshield]) at the end of crack to prevent it's spreading.

For example Golf4 windshield replacement cost me ~120U$D (windshield + work) i presume that labor in US/Canada will cost much more

My car even older than I.

Here in Sweden passing MOT with that windshield would be a problem. As long as it does not interfere with visibility its ok.

Windshield Crack
Same in the Netherlands as in Sweden.

Keep in mind that the crack is there for a reason: the metal underneath the windshield is probably rusting and pushing the window up. This is one of the known weaknesses of the AE86 and I (and many others) had exactly the same with our ae86s. Since your car isn't an AE86 but also from somewhere in the 80s it probably suffers from the same thing.
So once you are going to replace the windshield keep in mind you need to do a little bit of grinding and welding before you put a new window in there. Wink

Looking at that last picture it might already have had some welding done there in the past. Above the rust there is something that looks like a ground down weld.

I am sorry I meant wouldn't be a problem. Seen bigger cracks pass MOT.
