Right I'm considering going over to "the dark side" lol

20v install

I have no problem with the mechanics of the swap but what I'd
really like to know is about the ecu.
Currently the car has a 16v engine with a Freedom ecu running
through a stock blue top loom.

I would like to keep the Freedom ecu and that would mean keeping
the stock blue top wiring outputs from the ecu.

Freedom can run a 20v and I can tune it but will it be possible
for me to modify my loom to suit the 20v engine ?

Thanks for help with this.

MAP based
Apart from vvt are there any other differences with the engines ?
The ecu can run Alpha n for the itb's

What ecu are you running? Omex/ Emerald/ Motec/etc?

Should be not problem if its a proper ECU! If you want it cheap a little bit of soldering a lot of reading and crossreferencing.
There are a few thing different on a 20V BT, idle up valve, rpm signal etc. Not saying it can´t be done but lot of work and still a 20year old loom!
And you gonna need a remap anyway, obviously...

BUT I´d recomend a new custom loom, you can buy the ecu plug with wires/ pins seperate for your ecu (if its no piggy back shit) and use the OEM senders/ connectors and solder it to the new loom, this is also a good way to ditch the dizzy (and avoid buying a relocation kit) for a coil pack.

I´ve just done this at work, 20V blacktop on omex using a new loom with the OEM plugs. Very easy to build and a lot neather as a chopped OEM loom.

For me I don't see any problem using your current ECU for a 20v.
I would have to watch again my 86club to be 100% sure, but I'm pretty confident on the fact that Tsuchiya's Trueno run with a Freedom ECU.

How exactly does your post help?

I start by naming freedom ECU´s, fell free to add more Wink:

Motec, Vipec, Emerald, Omex, Haltech, Trijekt, Bosch, Megasquirt...

Edit: What a stupid company whould give themself such silly name? It´s like beeing a BMW main dealer and having "new cars" as a company name... or beeing a company that does wooden shelfs naming themselfs "wood"...

Sorry no expirience with a so called "freedom ecu", sorry...

Omex motec etc.. are "standalone" ECUs, not "Freedom" ECUs

Hey no problem guys, there has been some confusion over the
naming of the ecu before and I forgot that "freedom" it seems can
be a generic name for a programmable ecu.
I'm sorry I wasn't a bit clearer about that.

Some valid points about the idle valve and my ecu can control the 20v
idle valve if I can find the output pin from the ecu.
There is also a chance that it can control the vvc too.
