Suspension questions
Hi there, i have 2 big questions that looks for answer...

Fisrt, i've converted my front legs to coilover, and since that i ve been running with wrong springs looking for the best rate. On different places i realised it should be arround 7kg front and 5kg rear. Now im readdy to order the springs but i dont know what is the equivalent rate of 7kg to X pounds/ins that its what you have to select on demontweeks.
Also, where can i get the 5kg rear springs?

And second, i have bilstein inserts on front. It works as upsidendown damper so the main rod is on the bottom of the insert. Can i make a bigger hole on the bottom of the insert and on the bottom of the leg so the rod can pass through them and i can get a little more travel on the damper without riseing the car?

Thanks a lot in advance

Bilsteins ?
Are these the AE86 specific inserts or the 40mm o/d motorsport inserts ?

Thanks mate, according to this conversion, 7kg spring is equal to 400pound ins ? I remember long time ago purchasing a set of springs to my 205gti coilovers and it was 160 pounds. And forum parnters talks about 200/240 pounds on only track use...
Anyone has any experience/feedback about purchasing this kind of springs?

They are specific bilstein inserts for the ae86 oe legs Wink

Cheers

Check with Bilstein about re-valving to suit 400lb springs, from my experience they seem under damped in rebound and over damped in bump (190lb springs) They are very good with standard springs which I guess is what they are designed for.
The best way to ensure proper spring location without raising the ride height is to use a helper spring arrangement but be aware that the mating collar for the two springs is unlikely to fit over your coil over conversion if you used the weld on sleeve type.

What aboul if i place the helper spring and mating collar on the top instead on the bottom. Theese kind of damper cant be revalved, its not expensive units (about 180€ pair).

The car is an everyday use but i like it to be firm and ocassionally goes tougue and drift.
Im used to firm cars so 400lb is not an issue if it is the best option.

It's an option but it depends on spring length, where on the strut the sleeve has been welded and to some extent wheel offset. (Wheel offset because the inside of the tyre can hit the spring if you lower it enough or use long springs)

Good suspension is not necessarily stiff, especially for rally. 7/5 will not be a very forgiving setup for street driving, 6/4 is already quite stiff, but it's the shocks that are the defining factor for how your car will handle and feel.

for rally i would go <4.75 front and<4 rear.
Why always such stiff suspension 7/5 is way too much
Like said above the shocks are the magic
