Speed sensor
Can anyone tell me what the effect of running the car without the speedo cable attached to the gearbox would be ?
Diagnostic test brings up a code 9 fault "speed sensor" which is not surprising as the speedo cable does not fit the Ford gearbox I have fitted !

There is a reed switch in the speedo that outputs a pulse to the ECU.
AFAIK it is only used to activate a speed cut on some models. If the
signal is missing it throws a fault. For what its worth, I ran my car with
the speedo cable disconnected a couple of times, and didn't notice any
change in performance, and don't remember getting a CEL.

Mux drove his car with a broken speedo cable for some time... Can't remember him getting faultcodes either.
