Screeching noise when starting up? belts?
Hello all
I recently noticed that when i start my 86 up then is a screeching noise for about 30 seconds then it stops. This happened when i took the car out for a drive at the weekend and i noticed the noise for a few seconds. My friend reckons it is one of the belts. Can anyone offer any help to solve this and get rid of this irritating noise. What damage will it do? Thanks! There is only one true Nismo at AEU86 |

Sounds like one of the belts. Alternator belt would be your best bet. Just check the tension on it and adjust if necessary. If the belt itself has started to decay, lose bits etc, then first get a replacement. Easy job to do.

nismo if the multi belt (5 V profile) is in good condition do the following:
loosen the top bolt on the alternator. Also losen the lower bolt a bit. Then use a breaker bar or some sort to put between te alternator and the lower block of the engine. You now have a leaver effect. You can adjust the tenstion this way by using the lease effort. Ones at the correct tension. Some less than a thumb. Tighten the screws on the alternator while keeping the bar pushed so the tension stays on the belt. Fast belt check - just pour some water on belts (very little !) and then start the engine. If the sound is missing - re-tight5en/change the belt(s).
