Mini Update Time:

Ripped the inside out so it looked like this:

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

Then smacked it with a hammer til it looked like this:

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

Then cut the floor like this:

Til the seat rails looked like this:

The 86 now resides in a worshop with these stablemates:

More next week when I get a day off

Because I'm tall and need wide seats the floor needs cutting to get the seats as low as physically possible - it'll all make sense once the finished pics are done

Great stuff m8. Thumbs up!

Got any more pics of this car, especially the suspension?
Or if you have some steel wide rear fenders I would be very happy to take them off your hands. Tongue Cool

Hi - sorry the owner is a bit funny about close ups of his stuff Smile

Ok so this weeks update looks like this:

Rear bumper and lights and trim removed for inspection prioer to painting
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

All solid and still covered in the Waxoyl from October last year
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

Front off ready to go for paint in a few weeks and to make it easier to prevent damage in a busy workshop
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

Passenger side seat rails now mocked up and ready for build in proper steel, drivers side position measured and marked and those areas of the floor that need to be removed have been done so. All looks drastic but the strength will be replaced by the new welded seat rails.
One of his customers Escort WRC cars left a stage on the otterburn stages flat in 6th last weekend and rolled 9 times. The seat rails he had just redone for the customer were immaculate after the accident and proved to me that his build quality is there!

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

I have a picture in my head of how the finished car will be. Seems so far away from it is now but i cant wait to see what we finish up building

Cheers

Rich Smile

Ok, I can imagine he doen't want to give close ups, although he has noting to worry about, I'm not rallying. Wink

Let him take a look at this if you want: http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/impreza-g...ct_/t/5949
Maybe he has some advice or tips on the build up?

greets

Got some pics I can upload from recent progress - moving house again meant no broadband in the evenings so I havent updated the build log

Ripped the dash and aircon out

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

spaghetti anyone?

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

Then got the linisher out to remove the hammerite that I cluelessly had decided to paint the rear floor in - nasty job - even with a mask and me being a hardened smoker I was feeling rough for days after

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

After that was time to fabricate the evolution version of the Safety Devices cage and weld in the seat rails and the big hole cut into the floor pan

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

Whilst the welder was out Dean fabbed up a mounting for the hydraulic vertical handbrake and moved the cable handbrake (needed for scrutineering on some events)

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

Then the shell went off to get the surface rust removed from the arches and some fresh metal in its place and then primered

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

By which time the rear section of the cage was back from the powdercoaters (love how its metallic silver in some lights and reflects gold in others)

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

And a week later off to pick the car up from the painters in its new coat of Nissan Skyline Bayside Blue inside and out

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Rich's AE86 projectu - 56K crashu]

So thats it thus far - still a work in progress and a couple of months away from completion but its all going in the right direction.
Sadly the engine side of things has been curtailed after an inlet manifold I paid for didnt arrive and the forum user "lost" the postage receipt. Once this issue is resolved I can rock on with the ITB's

Massive thanks to Dean George at Geoprep Race and Rally for his efforts

Comments as always appreciated, good or bad
