Revs going up and down...
Hi guys,

Problem started a while back when we needed to fix the better exhaust etc.
So some time ago the Timing came of for the sparkplugs on my 1st gen 4agZe...

After that the car needed to start and ran a little bit low.
I have tried lots of stuff to get the (timing) to work but never came any further than how the car was doing.
It was fine I guess...

Now (yesterday) I installed a 160LPH fuel pump and its really really weird.
When the engine is cold it goes up and down the REVS - then when the engine is warmer it's fine most of the time after driving a couple of miles.
In reverse its sometimes more noticeable.

MOST of the time when at idle it goes up a little bit and then down and then it just stalls. It just dies... (need to restart)
When driving or flooring the pedal there are NO hiccups or problems.

So its really weird!

What do I need to do? Either place the throttle response or go to a dyno and let the mechanic TUNE my car OR WHAT?

What can I do?
Anybody in the Netherlands that can help me for some money?
Thanks!

EDIT : Friend of mine said maybe your drowning the engine... So that means I really need a tune-up or maybe something else...
Because of the Janspeed exhaust I also do not have a LAMBDAsensor anymore but before it was fine without it.
I still THINK the car should be timed properly.
But it can also be the Throttle Position Sensor

You are running to rich probably...

Try to find a wideband to verify.
Also do a measurement of fuel pressure. The volume of the new pump probably has increased the pressure in the fuel rail.

Yeah when driving on the freeway or down the road - nothing happens - all is just fine... but sometimes when standing still or in front of a stoplight the engine stalls...

So my gut is saying maybe throttle position sensor? for the idle stuff.
As I had a little problems in the days before the fuel pump swap.

Meh... tried the TPS today - didnt really work for me...
Do you have to let the engine run and then play with it a bit or can you also shift it when not started to have any effect?

Then I reset the ECU - still revs going up and down but sometimes it idled very nicely but that was short-lived.
Driving around didnt help either.
Sometimes it was idling PERFECT and then all of a sudden when waiting for a train to pass or at the stop-lights it went down and almost out again.

I should probably go to somebody to tune my car.
Maybe the timing is just off.

Put back my old sparkplugs seemed to have fixed the BIG PHAT idle hunting but its still going up and down a bit.
And it still stalls.

I have tried to move the TPS and that didnt help too much either.

Cleaned some stuff as well...

Tomorrow its going to the Toyota garage to see if they can fix it with a tune-up.

Been to Toyota dealer.
There was a mechanic who helped me with the car (allthoug I was at home he was trying to fix it)

He tuned the car to proper CO and grabbed U LOOP RUBBER HOSE and cut it in half. He said it was the power-steering.
Het cut it in half and then closed both parts up...

Then he told me I should buy a breather / airfilter for my carter ventilation aka airfilter on top of the camshafts hoods... 1 pipe sticking out NOW I have a airfilter on there.
And I closed the other branch that came of the back of my airfilter tube towards my throttle-body.
So thats what I did... When driving away from the dealer it still ran like shit in IDLE... But after these mods it runs a bit better now.

Now I might try to fix a lambda-sensor in 1 day.

Does anybody know what kind of lambda I need to buy?
I need it to have a screw type so I can build it in with the AEM no weld kit.
Thanks.

Sound like dead ISCV (the shit under the throttle body)

Might be but it idles a lot better now since I put the breather thing up top and closed the other on the back of my airfilter / just above the throttle body/valve.

I might get a lambda tomorrow and plug that in - and I also might take a look at the throttle body and clean it.

Tho the lambda that was enclosed with this engine LOOKS like a single wire type but that's just weird - shouldnt it be 4 wire type?
