Bare in mind that the top of the engine will move around as the engine rocks under positive/negative load. I would think ±10mm allowance is required at the top of the engine as a rough guess, maybe more.

Yes, my fabricator and I discussed this. You may well be right. We decided to leave it as is for now, and we'll wait and see if it knocks against the booster once we get get the car started and driving. If it does, then we'll just shave a few mm from the back of the plenum.

nice work on your build.

A quick question: what needed more room on the engine/gearbox that reuired you to mod your firewall/tunnel apart from the shifter itself?

congrats man Smile

make sure you have a decent bash plate made for the front of the sump as im assuming its well below the crossmember line?

did you end up clearing the sway bar with the engine that far forward?

ps i finally pulled my finger out and got mine finished Smile

clutch kick, switch, tree .... oowwww

Sam-Q - Not sure exactly mate, but I'm assuming the shifter section of the box was hitting the tunnel.

fantapants - Glad you got yours running again! Did you just end up buying a new engine, or did you rebuild yours? They're not too badly priced here in NZ actually. I saw an engine going for $800.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the conversion now that you've had a chance to drive it? Are you happy with it's performance? Post pics and vids!

The sump does sit a little lower than I'd like, so we'll definitely be fabricating a plate for the sump. Yup, engine does clear sway bar, but only by a few mm.

Progress has stalled over Christmas, but the workshop re-opens today, so I'm hoping to make quick progress in the next couple of weeks. I've bought FC3S brakes which I'm dropping off at the workshop today. We'll be fitting AE111 calipers for the rear.

This project is costing me thousands, but I'm planning on tucking the car away in the garage for years to come, and taking it out for track duties, weekend cruises etc. whenever I feel like having a bit of fun - so it shoud hopefully be a good long-term investment. Gotta have a toy to play with when needed.

Any chance you can take pics of the engine mounts and the crossmember?

The car is now running - just a few minor issues to sort out.
Here are a few pics from the NZ 4 & Rotary Nationals. Took the car straight from the workshop to the show, just in time!

Photos from under the car will come shortly.

Nice build pitty those engines are so hard to source around here for a sensible price Sad
I'd rather put a Beams into my AE than a 20V but fir now I'm stuck with tuning what I have.
