My panda's got issues
hi guys,

I'm a proud owner of a AE86 GT APEX. If I'm not mistaken its the only one in my country and I'm really glad about this site for being there as it just shows how many petrol heads like me are out there who's into the panda......Smile

I have unsolved 2 issues with my Panda..

1. When I thrash the car around i.e. rev its beyond 7k and run around the city AND once I let the rev drop by going into idle the revs drop to nothing and the engine stalls. This will happen continuously and I hav to do heel-toe just to keep the engine running. Anyone knows what this problem is?

2. I have 14" rims with 195/60/14 tire sizes. I had 185/65/14s when i bought the car but after changing the tires each time I go over a bump the tires touch the fender. What type of tires do you guys recommend?

I also notice that this happens only on the drivers side though there may be 2 ppl sitted on the passenger side front and back..

Anyone can help??

Heshan

2: It mainly depends on the rims you are using... But my best guess is that your 185/65 tires were very near the fender, so having 195/60 on the same rims would cause the tire to be just a little bit wider on the surface and barely touching the fender. Then it doesn't matter much that the tire is less tall.

i actually might have written it in a misleading fashion. Actually its the 195/60s that hit the fender rather than the 185/65s. I hav GAB pressure adjustables and I'm not sure how to fix this issue other than by adding a spacer to the shocks or removing the wheels spacers and bring the wheels a bit in.

But my worry is that the fender is only hit only on the drivers side even though there might be two people on the drivers and the passengers weighing the same.

I think the rear axle moves fractionally to the RHS of the car when it
is lowered, due to the geometry of the Panhard Rod *transverse link).
Usual fix is to make this rod adjustable, so that you can centre the back
axle between the fenders, and have equal clearance both sides.

but i havent lowered the car.. the car has adjustable shocks but not the height its the pressure you can adjust. could this happen even in the same case?

The suspension must have been already nice & stiff if the 185s were not rubbing, Id say go back 185 & tell the tyre guy that stretching is not an issue.

Does the engine stall when it's run normally? Or is it only after revving it to 7k+?

Go to the same profile but 185, that should stop the rubbing and give it a nice low stance. Thumbs up!

the 185s were actually quite perfect but like you said hope that the stretching is ok. I was hoping once these tires are done to use 195/55 tires or even 50s
