in an AE86 my opinion is. Fine to have a stereo even a good one. But start with sound proofing the whole car as the little car is like one big resonating tin can.

Yes, I may look into soundproofing, but to be fair I've been using it today and the extra depth of sound I can now get has really helped to overcome all the background noise from the engine, exhaust, gearbox and diff!

I have a pair of 4" mid/high range speakers in the stock front location that have a high pass filter.

The head unit runs with high pass filter on too so the 6x9's are not doing any low frequencies, leaving that to the sub. The difference in the crispness of the sound is amazing.

I'm sure an audiophile would say I need a crossover and high level tweeters and all that in the A pillar, but compared to what I had it's stunning. Smile

Nice one, I will be putting a decent stereo in my car aswell, but my car is a daily driver not a racer.
But I will be putting some sound deadening material on the panels, which also weight of course but I will sacrifice that for a bit of peace and quiet. Smile

Is it any use to put speakers in the back, under the rear window?

And did you get the new suspension yet?

Aram, I've got a pair of 6x9's in the rear parcel shelf.

That massively helps as you need it for the mid-range.

My setup is this:

Alpine double din head unit with Ipod connection.

4" mid with tweeters in the front dashboard standard speaker location. These have high pass filters so it limits the bass.

6x9s as a I said in the rear parcel shelf. I have a custom parcel shelf made of MDF.

The Blaupunkt Sub is in the wheel well and is powered by an amp. I already had an amp, but you can buy the Blaupunkt Sub with an amp for an extra £50/70 Euro. That'd be the way to go I think.

I use my car everyday. I have to say with the setup I have it is easily enough to overcome engine noise, so you can hear the music well. It has a good amount of depth and if I wanted to I can make it really kick arse with the bass. I'll be driving this car to Duderstadt in Germany for an MR2 show next month so I'm glad I've got it all installed now! Smile

No new suspension yet. I bought some second hand TRD blues for the rear to replace the leaking ones.

There is a wait for CS2 coilovers from Driftworks. I think it can wait a little longer. Tis a shame as I'm unable to do trackdays with the current setup. It's bearable on the road though.

Aren't they too hard for the road?
I would like to get new suspension, but as my car is a daily driver I think the cs2's will rattle my teeth out....

The feedback I've had from two friends that have them on, is that they actually can ride pretty well.

I've got TRD blue springs all round. Crap dampers (I don't know what they are) in the front and TRD blue rear dampers. The ride isn't good, it doesn't handle well. I have the rears on setting number 1 because the fronts are underdamped.

Btw, only one picture works in your post about the audio.

I would really like an oldschool type radio in my car, like a McIntosh , Panasonic CQ-TX5500D, etc.

I would like some more reviews of the cs2 before I buy it, maybe even drive a car with one, but I doubt there is anyony here in Holland.

Fair comment. And those retro head units are just lovely. My pics were working earlier, not sure why they've stopped.

Just out of interest I will be driving through pretty much where you appear to live on the 17th July as I'm staying two days in Zandvoort before driving east, meeting a friend in Zwartsluis and then driving in convoy to a car show (MR2's) in Duderstadt.

On the 19th July we have a day to get over to meet our friend, Erik in Zwartsluis. No idea if you're around but happy to meet for coffee etc. Would be me and my fiance. No idea if you're available but just a thought. Smile
