I need people that know Electrics!!!
Hi all,

After the brainstorm with my trunk - with ventilator holes in them - I want to take it further.
It's just not enough...

What I want to do now is either buy an A/C for the AE86 - BUT to be honoust - it's probably not gonna cool me very well...

So I have been looking further and further and have come to the idea that I would like to buy a (omvormer) ... dont know how to call it but its a special block that makes 220V go to 12V (special electricity adaptor).

What I want to try is plug in a relatively small CARAVAN aircon unit.

Something like the Truma Saphir Compact or whatever.
Or maybe a move-able little airco unit... as long as the thing can COOL!

Any ideas of how I can achieve this or what might help?

Please let me know guys... for me its really difficult.

Exactly that's what I am talking about...

But how the F do I get a Limo A/C and what do you need to adapt? Is it difficult and how much would it cost you think? Thanks.

your best bet is to get a highduty aircon system like Toyota fits to the landCruisers/Hilux in Africa-Middle east. Problem is I'm not sure the can physicaly fit as the are huge in every aspect, evaporator, compressor, codensor etc... If I can find a cheap way to get a palett from UK to me I'll hav a n AC system that I can test in the harshest environment you can imagine but so far shipping quotes are more than just ridiculous.

Good luck with your plan. Retrofitting an AC is quite a task!

The spec sheet indicates a current draw of 55 Amps @ 12 VDC. Assuming
you can locate a 12 VDC=>230 VAC inverter with a suitable rating (say
800-1000 Watts, TRUMA have one), you could look at mounting a second
dedicated 60A alternator in the position usually occupied by the A/C
compressor. Probably need a battery in the circuit as well, to deal to the
starting current.

Then you could place the A/C unit in some kind of custom enclosure,
maybe behind the rear seat (seatback folded down) with a sealing panel.
The back end of the A/C needs to vented to atmosphere to get rid of the
rejected heat. Some flexi-ducting and a little ingenuity should sort that
out... and BINGO... you have A/C Hurray!

Cheers... jondee86
