I Bought an engine for $1.50!
Recently in New Zealand a new requirement has been added for the Warrent of Fitness (same as your MOT). The car cannot produce visible smoke for 5 seconds or more. My ae85 smokes all the time it is running Dumb question

So of course i went looking for a new 3au engine and found one on Trade Me (NZ's ebay) for $1.50!! It came with a worn out automatic k50 which i am throwing away.

The real problem is that the bearings in my gearbox have worn out (220 000km) so i need a new K50.

Yeah, i was pretty pleased. The guy also gave me the radiator i was missing from my air con. Big Grin

The best bit is that all the bits from my old engine can be sold because the new one has them all. The engine mounts alone could go for $60+..

K50 gearbox is looking like it will drain all my surplus money though Sad

K50 or T50 ?
If this is K50 - anything from old Starlet/Corolla with up to 1.3 engines (K-series) RWD will fit (4spd=K40, 5spd=K50) but you must worry about clutch housing (forgot the english word for that part) - A-serie is diferent than K-serie and I'm not sure is this housing integral with the gearbox or they can be separated (talking for K50).

3A belhousing is different, and it's one piece with the box, so a K-series box won't fit.

It doesnt matter what the source of of the gearbox is (K50). All RWD toyotas (especially old ones) are in serious demand. No one wrecks them. They aren't impossible to find, just expensive. I do have the bell housing all ready though.
