How to make the handbrake more effective?
Guys, no matter how much I tighten the cable from the adjuster near the lever, my rear wheels won't lock up?

I assume its due to the following reasons:

1. Rear Disc worn out
2. Cable not taut enough
3. Pistons are not working hard enough in the calipers
4. Bad brake pads

Guys any suggestions on how to improve this? I really would like to get the rear sideways using the handbrake and not just with power.. With a small and crowded roads in Sri Lanka its really dangerous.. Sad

Please help.

thanks,
heshan.

Well, you pretty much answered the question yourself...
What you need to do, get new discs + pads and check if the caliper works properly. (self adjusting mechanism)
While doing that bleed your brake system, too.

Usually the adjuster mechanism is fooked.

Drifting on crowded and narrow public roads is fucking stupid.

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

heshan Wrote:1. Rear Disc worn out
No, no such thing as worn out until it breaks or the pads aren't conforming with the disks concentric grooves.
2. Cable not taut enough
Maybe. Adjusted right & all pivot points & linkage & cables lubed?
3. Pistons are not working hard enough in the calipers
Maybe. pistons could be frozen/corroded in caliper.
4. Bad brake pads
No. Good pads for an easy handbrake would be too soft & lockup easily when using the hydraulics & overheat quickly.

Good luck.[/b][/b]

How to make the handbrake more effective?
I had the same issue but then I found out that Im using the handbrake the wrong way. Its all about transfering the weight around.

Small and twisty roads are fun but dont even think about doing this in traffic...

Thats the problem of this handbrake setup, allen said most of it.
But why cannot just use 1,R gear while parking? I gave up and do that automatically everytime.

Thanks guys for your feedback on this.

Is there any write up on what the changes are to install a hydraulic handbrake?
