Electric steering column, need help please!
I head some one use a Opel/Vauxhaul Corsa electric steering column. Can anybody tell me witch model and year they use, and which parts I need???
I think I need some electronics to controle it.
Some pictures will also be great Smile

I allready have a Toyota Yaris NLP90 electric column, but I don't think it will going to work, because I can zero-point calibrate it, without it fitted to the vehicle. It run with a CAN-BUS system, so I can't use the steering ECU by itself. It have to be connected to the whole system Sad

I talked with some guys from the Danish Touringcar Championship, the had electronic steering column in the Corolla E12. They ran in some problems when they hit the curbs, then the powersteering went off! They actually had to get a new software from the developer in Japan, and I don't think I afford such thing Huh

I will use my AE86 on the tracks, so I had to know if the Corsa steering column have the same problems.

Project AE86 now begun.

Cars I have owned:
Toyota Starlet EP91 1,3 16v Turbo, 200hp
Toyota Starlet EP71 1,3 12v Sport

Yes you should. And just the brackets so the thing stays cheap.

Parking can be a bitch with 225-45-15 semi's.. not everyone runs those 195 wide girlie tires stretched to give even less grip

Joking obviously, but the electric assist is quite nice. Pretty light servo motor (7.4kg total weight incl. column) and the amount of assist can be set by a dial. Anything from no-assist to weak lady mode. I found that you can be more accurate with some assistance but that's just my weak old bones talking. Power assist also helps to mask some of the effects that a fucked up ae86 suspension generates. Kickback through the steering wheel is less and you can run more caster for a better dynamic camber curve. The car becomes less sensitive to wide stance rims that add a lot of scrub radius. Freeway driving from and to the track is also more relaxing with full assist. That way you arrive fresh at the track. Its a preference thing I guess.

Nah just the brackets will do..we get ebay over here to so the electronics are plentifull.

I finally fittet the Corsa electric steering column Thumbs up! But I must say, its NOT a Plug-N-Play fit on a LHD car!!! There is not room because, the electric motor hits the heater unit.
The electric motor are mounted horisontal on a Corsa and I had to mount it in a 45deg angle.

I choose the steering column from a 2001 Vauxhaul Corsa C with tilt, and bought it on Ebay.co.uk I also bought a electric control for it also on Ebay. Its a simple device witch gennerate a square signal (Hall signal), it replicate the original speed and rpm signal from the Corsa. It comes with a little adjusting knob, so I can adjust the steering assist from fully to no assist at all.
You also need to get the steering ECU, 2 connectors with some wirring, the lower knuckle joint, the column cowl and the turn signal switch. And of cause a steering wheel boss or use the Corsa steering wheel.
