Electric Power Steering - What options are available
Hi,

I bought a Quaife quick steering rack and pinion.
I think that after fitting it, the steering will get very heavy to handle, especially during parking and low speed manouevres.

My idea is to install a electric power steering (electric column).

Anyone knows what electric steering columns are available?

I read somewhere that the Corsa C units are easy to install. Anyone ever tried it?

Thank you.

Regards,
Pedro

Well, after some googling i found the Yaris P9 steering column can be fitted into the AE86

However it has to be a non-ABS version which i think never existed in Europe.

The steering column part number is 45200-52300.
The EPS ECU it's also needed, i think the P/N is 89650-52070.

If your gonna be running slalom/drifting the electric PS motor can/will overheat quickly and stop assisting suddenly. At least IIRC from a guy who did it.

The one in the hr.net link you showed I think.

It´s from Opel Corsa.
AE86 shaft from motor to steering wheel.
It needs positive cable, negative cable and rpm, works when engine is running.

I don't use the car in drifting/slalom, only fast road and trackdays...

The main problem is to find a non-ABS Yaris in Europe... Undecided

I'm very attentive to this post because i was thinking to buy this "Quaife quick steering rack and pinion", i knew steering will be harder, i use 195/50 R15 tyres, camber: -2º . I use the car for weekend road and fast road

bakonick, what size are your front tyres?

Rasteirinho If I remember correctly you have the same tyres size like mine, is the steering too harder or have you the power steering for a comfortable ride?

On the other hand, did you ask in toyota (europe) for those parts from non ABS yaris P9? (in Toyodiy 1.100$ for the steering column and 557$ for ECU Huh )

...a bit expensive

Thanks
