Dash Waning Lights
Hi all,

Yesterday at my garage idling and prepping for the AE86 meeting in Portugal some warning lights came on.

First: rear light warning lights (no lights were blown)
Second: Front light warning light (no lights blown)

After a 1min or so, the Battery Charge light came on...

I did a quick measurement with a multimeter and only got 12.xx Volts...

I bet this is an alternator issue and without power, the grounds are all messed up and lights come on... Right? Smile

Well, it does sound like an alternator issue, but I'm not sure which warning lights you are refering to.
High beam / parking brake?
Some of the warning lights get switched through a bulb test relay by the contact switch (all lights come on before you start).

Hey Ivan,

These ones!

I am running the digital cluster Smile

Usually these lights come on when a bulb is shut.... But all my lights are working properly.

I guess this is a ground issue, since the alternator is failing to charge somewhere....

I'm sure some sort of manual must exist for digital dash electrical wiring, but it is very likely Japan-only, which makes it difficult to find.

As far as I know the rear lights warning lamp indicates there is either higher or lower resistance than usual (lamp half broken or completely broken). It could be caused by either a bad ground or corrosion on your bulbs. So maybe the circuit measuring this was half assed due to the lower voltage? Dumb question

Probably... i've already managed to reach more guys with the digital tacho and all mentioned that when alternators go bad the warning lights come on!

So, this circuit is also affected by (maybe) bad ground or messed ground....
