Check battery light goes ON
Hi folks,

This afternoon my check battery light got on. The check engine light is off, so i think it is not the alternator. The crazy thing is, if i rev it passed 5k the light goes off? Does anyone know what it could be? Did the battery just die?

Regards Martin

Think it's the alternator.. when mine died, the check engine light stayed off too.. that one only comes on when you have serious problems.

try to check all connections, but i think it's the alternator, because at higer revs the alternator JUST works enough to put out the light.

Ok,

Just messured the battery terminals while idle: 12.4V, which is quite low.
Reved a bit and got 12.5 - 12.6V which is ways to low, as lead-battery neads at least 13.2V to charge.

Any suggestions? Still the alternator I think....

P.s. took the bat out to charge over night.

could be the wire. I had that, eventually I switched the plug (that goes into the back of the alternator) to fix the problem

If the wire connects well or doen'st that makes the light go on and off.

Sounds like your alternator is about to die. The light will come on more and more frequently then it'll finally give out usuall. Get a remanufactured alternator with a lifetime warranty and you won't have to worry about it again. A few people have replaced them with one from a 7mge I think, could be a way to go to gain some extra amperage since you're swapping it out anyway.

Yeah, but it is strage, that over 5000RPM the light goes off and it's quite systematicly, so I don't thing it is just a bad connector making trouble...

If you raise the engine speed to the point where the light goes off,
then add some load such as switching the lights on... does the charge
warning light come back on ??

Check battery light goes ON
Just made a fast check with a fully charged battery: 12.8V with the light still one. Turned on the light, foglight, radio etc. heater... 12.2V. It is definitly the alternator!

Where to get a new one?
