Changing Mileometer reading?
As some of you guys may or may not know, I am preparing my car for a digital to analog gauge cluster swap. But I have a question which I hope some of you guys can help with.

Basically I want to be able to change the reading on the mileometer so that it matches the cluster gauge that I will be taking out. I tried already but stopped because I didnt want to break anything.

Any tips would be helpful!

Thanks! Smile

Changing Mileometer reading?
Hi Zax

Thanks for your post. I have taken the whole thing apart, but don't know where to go from there. Does it involve taking the 2 screws and the needle off? Can you just roll it back afterwards?

If I take the needle off, will I need to get the speedo callibrated afterwards?

I belive that you can disassamble the roll, and then put the numbers back in the "right" order.
You need to take off the needle, its easiest done with a regular fork - just put it under the needle and gently pull it of. On the back of the mileometer theres sort of a cup in metal, where the cabel turns. If you mark the needles position proportional to the cup, the mileometer is still correct. In case its not, it pretty easy to calibrate. Just hold on to the cup, and turn the needle back or forth ex. 20 miles (if it shows 20 miles to much)
I did it on my previous Toyota, and as far as i know, it still works. Thumbs up!

Be careful taking apart your "clock" They are not designed to be disassembled, but they can be taken apart, I know for a fact. Just take your time. You can however keep rolling it forward until you come back around to the right number, but It could take a long time

Well, here in holland they keep track of odometer mileage at the annual checkup. So you would get red-flagged the moment they find out the mileage has started to decrease. Dunno if there would be any consequences though.. I was thinking about this as a safety measure in case the volvo exceeds the allowed 5000km mileage for the insurance, but disconnecting the speedometer drive cable in time also does the trick.
