Hi there, on my slow turbo bluetop project, i was planning on stay all stock and run it low bost 5/6 psi max. But the other day i,ve realised i have a tiny coolant leak between head and block, closest area to firewall and its probably to take out head to repair it.

On the way i was thinking on place a thicker head gasket to reduce compression so i can increase psi on turbo. How much bar ps psi can i run with stock internals and dropped compression?
Where can i find a thicker head gasket to drop compression to 8 or so to 1?

Lowering the comperssion is the cheap way to do a turbo build. Our engines already have a low compression compared to modern standarts so why dropping it even further? I would change the hg and run more boost with the 9.4:1 cr a stock laregport delivers.
I would target arround 10-12psi on a stock motor.

Thanks a lot for the answer mate. Sorry but what does hg means? I thougt bluetop bigport was arround 10:1 cr.

Is oe head gasket enough for this kind of spec?

HG= headgasket Smile
Seen serval builds with the OEM headgasket wich seem to last with no problem.

9.4:1 or 10:1cr depends on the market the car was sold. But a rule of thumb for the EU market is if your car was equipped with a catalytic converter from the factory you got a 9.4:1 motor if not it is 10:1. But even 10:1 isn't a problem if the tune is done right.

I see. Mine came from sweedzeland and it has no catalic converter. For the tunning i also have an hks fcon from that era, with the gcc module for a fine tune. I have to add a wideband gauge to know im doing it right.

Im looking for the best cheap reliable one...i doesnt matter if i is a kit to solder myself. Any sudgestion?

If the car is from Switzerland it's got an AFM and 9.4:1 pistons, regardless if there's a CAT or not

Yea should have mentioned that AFM/MAP also difference the CR.
Not a big fan of piggybacks, for little more you can go standalone (Megasquirt PNP).
For the wideband I would go with a known Brand like AEM, PLX, Inovate...

It is afm And non cat. What woud be the safe turbo preassure i should achive with this kind of old stuff (hks piggyback) reliably?
I dont expect huge amount of power, just a bit more and some torquey so i can make my 185/55/15 rears spin on dry tarmac
