Big wheel problems
Hey there people,

I have a large size set of wheels on my car with carriage bolts. These can cause problems with steering sometimes. The front-wheels hit the bumper during steering. I have two options two fix this:

- a new set of medium-sized wheels
- moving my front-wheels more to the back

Either way, what do you guys think is the best option?
Do have any different solutions to my problem?

These dont look so big to me, what size are they? Not sure what you mean by carriage bolts.
As I recall, most rubbing occurs on the front bumper support brackets and the wheel arch lip, not against the bumper itself.
I wouldnt move the front wheel back, that would mess up your alignment (caster).

There's definitely people running larger wheels on a their 86s. Are you sure you aren't just running tyres with an incorrect size?
As already mentioned, moving the wheels aft will just mess up alignment. Having said that though, is your alignment correct in the first place? It might be worth checking alignment before you do anything else as its about the cheapest potential solution.

One more thing to verify are you running spacers up front? As this also increases the likelihood of contact by a few millimeters.

Big wheel problems
Good day people,

Thanks for all of the answers you have given me!

Carriage bolts are bolts that lock the disk of my wheel to my wheel, so my disk wheel doesn't get stolen. I don't know what the proper English term for that is, it came out of a google translate.
If moving my wheel slightly to the back would mess up the alignment, would increasing the space in the chassis behind the front-wheel be a better solution?

As for the size of my wheels and tyres, the alignment and the running spacers up front, I will measure them and check them as soon as I'm able to.

I will keep you guys posted!

Okay guy here's an update

I wasn't able to measure my tyres, but I did find info on my tyres. I have added a picture of it. Perhaps you can make out if it what the information means.

Thanks!

I ran 15 inch 195/50 on my first AE86 and didn't have issues.
Are they rubbing against the bumper or the lip that's mounted underneath the bumper? I believe the mounting of the lip also sits a little bit more inwards.

Are you sure it's hitting the bumper and not something else? Do you you have any wear-marks of where its been hitting your car or marks on the tire perhaps?

If the tire size isn't off, maybe the offset of the wheels isn't correct.

Carriage bolts (Slotbouten) would translate to wheel lock nuts.
These would never affect the wheel to rub somewhere in the wheel arch.

Looking at your picture, i'm assuming you are Dutch.
If you want, i have an extra set of wheels that you could testfit, located in Utrecht. 14"x6,5 ET15 and ET25

Judging by the picture in OP, you have too much positive offset.

Also hard to judge from the picture as the car is black, is it possible that your front bumper is mounted slightly too far back?
