AE86 Rear Brake options.
Hello ,
I think I've found my problem : I'm not using the correct caliper , despite it's from a Golf IV . I've noticed on your pics(NoHachi) that you have an external spring for the handbrake lever.

Mine has an internal system . That's not the trouble . The caliper sub-assy(support) is different from yours .
Got some pics :
I must find another caliper , but don't know what to look for , as it seems there are two models .
Will inquire next days .

Got caliper support from I don't know Golf , Audi , as it was out of car.

Tried it , but now ,if I center the caliper support with disc , there is too much room to reach the stock ae86 bracket.
Do you have to put washer between bracket and caliper support ?
Or I guess I don't have the good caliper support again .
Really hard to find ...

Finally got them fixed . It took a long time but I had lot of other problems
(what else can you have with rallye cars?? Banging head Banging head )

Not a big difference with normal braking. But it was not the aim . It's not very useful to have lot of brakes on rear .

But it's an awsome upgrade for handbrake .
I had an Hydraulic system , but even with DS2500 Ferodo on rear , It's was not working each time I needed .

With the VW Golf , it's full time working .

The second advantage is the pads disponibility : VW is direct fit .
As rear ae86 Ferodo DS2500 doesn't exist , i had to cut other pads to give them the Corolla shape .

All my feedback is based on rallye use .

I have stock Corolla E12 brakes at the rear, with Primera P11 discs....almost plug and play Smile Well...a hydraulic ebrake is a must after this conversion Wink

Last rally ended with lot of damage : exhaust , starter , gearbox , and last but not least engine .....

But to speak about rear brakes , they survived the race .
This rally was very fast and good brakes were needed.

The Golf calipers are a good upgrade . They behave very well and I can feel a good difference with the stock Toyota.
But it was not my goal , I had them fitted to improve the handbrake action .
I already had an hydraulic one , but I was very unsatisfied with it .
Now it's very reliable and work almost each time I need it .
Just have a look at the 2 pics

Hope it helps

Phil

Did anybody find out wich Golf, model, year, engine ect. those calipers came from?

And can anybody tell me what the offset are on the Primera discs? I will try to find some other discs in same size, but with a center hub that fits. Its more easy to drill a new 4x114,3 pcd, than get an hub center ring.

Project AE86 now begun.
