AE86 Rear Brake options.
When using an AE86 rear what other options are there for bolt-on replacement rotor and caliper other than OEM.
A friend has an AE86 diff but calipers and rotors are shot and missing too may parts.
New costs too much.
Is there a cheap and easy alternative??

Well rotors aren't a problem, just expensive. In Australia RDA make conventional or slotted rear rotors. and I would think they would be available in NZ

part numbers are (S is for slotted obviously) and prices in Aust dollars

Front pair RDA7500S 322.27 retail 257.56 trade plus GST 283.32
Rear pair RDA 7501S 288.09 retail 230.24 trade plus GST 253.26

Not slotted was quite a bit cheaper, but can't recall how much.

I don't believe there is any other bolt on caliper available, although the pad is the same as from a 1980 - 84 lancer GSR..... have never seen any with rear discs and would guess even if they were the same, that they would be even harder to source.

For what it is worth, I recently picked up a pair of front and rear calipers in good condition as spares on US ebay for $US115 and that included post to Australia.

We have one modified AE86 here:
rear rotors Nissan Primera, 257mm - direct fitment
rear calipers VW Golf MK4 - only little redrilling required, stock caliper mount plate (used on AE86 rear end) must be flipped at 180 angles and e-brake lever on VW caliper must be flipped also (all these are bolt-on jobs)

Will try to get pics !

Very interested too.
I think the major problem with the rear caliper(despite the fact that pads are really Mickey Mouse like) is guiding.
Just make an experiment : even with new bushing , hold caliper firmly and try to move it sideways. It moves a lot due to rubber bushing softness only .
That involve a lost of pedal course , as the caliper move before the strenght is applied on pads . The soft pedal sensation..
I'm really interested in finding better caliper for rear , even with stock discs

I have used the rear brakes from a MA45 Celica , (live axle) these are a direct bolt on to a ae86 rear, with a rotor size about 40mm larger.I will post a photo in the next day or so.
