Quote:Coilovers or TRD Japan Lowering Springs:
7kg / 5.7kg - All around excellent spring rate. Very sporty for street use, excellent Auto-X, road race or drift setup. This spring rate can do it all, and is personal choice of spring rate)

8kg / 6kg - Extreme end of sporty for street use, while still being bearable, Excellent choice for drift, good for high speed Road Race with or Auto-X with sticky tires. This is a very popular choice and has been used with good results)

10kg / 8kg - Drift, smooth track only, low HP cars, Induces minimal traction, harsh on chassis, not recommended unless you know what you are doing)

12kg / 10kg - Lunatic Drift, Crazy stiff, we will try to dissuade you from this choice and look at you sideways if you decide on these spring rates)

Thumbs up!

10/12 kg suspension will not move AT ALL during driving. You might as well remove the shocks, remove the springs and weld a pipe in there. Only reason they exist is the "more must be better philosophy.
I had 9/7 and felt the chassis flexing. Doors wouldn't close after a while etc. Even stiffer springs would play havoc with your nicely restored chassis. I would really recommend you to find some sane springs t" pho go with the dampers. 5.5/4 for sporty or 8/6 for pure circuit/drift.

only one way to find out if its to stiff.... complete the car and test it,
but super stiff is what I was going for
note that I'm building this car for drifting, not for street use, I have another ae86 for that..
and the chassy will be seam welded and maybe caged, but to compete in drifting in iceland you dont have to have a rollcage , so its a maybe..

i have to agree with NoHachi, this springrate is insane for the hachi. Lets say there will be around 225 kg of weight on one spring at the rear, the 12kg spring will only be 18,5 mm compressed with 225 kg! The body will get so much stress while driving that i think too that you will damage your 86...
Maybe good to think about making a complete tube chassis if you want such a stiff car?

If you have them, then certainly slap them on and see how you like them (karts have no suspension except body flex and are nice to drive). On perfectly smooth tracks you really don't need that much suspension movement.

Just keep an eye on those body seams and welds.
