Have a read of this site, and this site.

http://www.billzilla.org/4agmods.htm

http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/phil.bradshaw/INDEX.HTM

Buy a smallport or 20v, whatever you can get cheapest, then strip it completely, throw out pistons, rods, cams, cam pulleys, bolts and other miscellaneous items. Go to performance shops and empty wallet on table for machining and performance parts.

In short, there won't be a cheap way of doing it if you're keeping it NA. Also, you can easily put ITBs on a 16v, many have done it including myself.

I would go with Ivan on this one - much research, time, and money. Not a bolt on mods type of job.

Good luck.
Chris

Sergio, I didnt mean to put you off or anything, just want to spare you some dissapointment if the engine you build eventually doesnt turn out like you had planned.

I've been around long enough to see lots of engine builds.. and most dont get past the 180 hp mark (and those are already very nicely built engines). The formula atlantic engines are more than just the sum of their parts. There is lots of specialistic machining from experienced race engineering shops behind them, and they are not very suitable for use in something as heavy as an ae86 due to their peaky behaviour and lack of bottom end torque. Plus these engines need rebuilds every couple of 1000 km's.. are you sure that's what you want?

Try looking up threads about ron hellenbrand's engines, he's a guy that has lots of experience building strong 4age's, might give you some good ideas. Also pazza's old 4age buildup thread was an interesting read, with some input from the engine builder himself (angelworks).

like i said before
i know the disvantajes of this setups no probelmjajaj
but thx for ur time
i know what into just learning but prefer to have the engine now to tune later and i think in my little experience to get 200 or 202hp
needthe sport injection
good machining
strong parts
electronics
agresive cams
knowledge
and pure math

i know its dificult that why this is my life and still learning
never stop learning engines

the basics is to do to the engine things than the people never talks about
cuase ppl like to talk about itbs forgede pistons and etc
well we ll see in the future but after a simple searching but long search
makinmy short vacation reliable
i stay with the ae92kouki

see u later maybe with photos

but a few days ago in my research i found alot of forums but forums of my country where the ppl were debating whats the best 4age for blah blah blah and every body like u know read alot of internet and say the same thing between their circle thebest is the 20v other say the 16v other say the 3sge others say mix of 4age blah blah think know alot but know shi$%$%
so i made the call today and i say WHAT THE F$·%$·&%$·

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

"yes and the 20v 1500$ the reason is cuase my boss told me to raise a hundred bucks now cause alot of ppl ( he mean alot of f$·%$· kids)are buying this engine alot and the 20v too"

i said F·$%%$·%
and say goodbye and HANGED UP

a few months this engine with the gearbox looms and ecu was 1100$ or alil more
but now its 1100 just the engine

fu$·"$·"$·"·" kids here man buy this engine to swap into starlet cuase theres a stupid that has alot of fans cause he runs a starlet very light with itbs big port with 20v injection damn alot of kids simply buy all the engine and raise the price alot cause of this noobs

man im furious
i know when they notice the kind of money involved to make just 180hp well balanced they gonna abort
but i dont think to spend 1100$ + 400gearbox like i was buying a blacktop
for this sutpz kids
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr toomuch bucks for a simply old engine
the raise is ovius

What I don't understand is why you don't buy a standard 4AGE, do the conversion, save up some money and then buy the smallport or 20v and start building a second engine to your own liking?

The 4age from 87.5 - 89.8 is 7rib block without oil squirters 42mm conrod and 20mm piston pin. All the 7rib engines are 42/20mm

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This info is incorrect. I run and still have several 7 ribbed 40mm crank 18mm piston pin engines. Trust me. The info I posted is correct. However the GZE of that age (87) does have a 42mm crank and 20 mm pin but its running very low comp pistons 8.1

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regarding 200 HP engines. I seen one 4age making that much in my life and the cost is far over 5000. (not even counting hours on the bench) It can be done cheaper ( he messed up 2 sets of pistons and one complete lower block)

Regarding all the info. You want a 200 BHP 4age. If you don't care wether it is 16v or 20v. Than I think a 20V is cheaper and more reliable to tune than a 16V. Because the 20V won't need new pistons etc to reach the 200 bhp on the crank. (also seen in the vid)

So make up your mind and get around 5000 euro and you have a great go at a 200bhp engine.

16V needs special work. Diffrent pistons diffrent head work. Vavles must be adjusted etc.

I believe you and I belive everything. Smile
I've also heard from Australia that they've seen some 7ribbeb block AE86s so everything can be..
I only said what I have seen with my eyes and what my EPC says.

13401-16020 8705-9211 Crankshaft 4AGE..AE92
13401-16010 8308-8707 Crankshaft 4AGEC,4AGE..AE86

I've never seen any engines from MR2 AW11 or Celicas, maybe they are different.

just to add....

The 7 rib block first appeared in 1986 It had 40/18 internals. I KNOW this because my 1986 GTS had a 7 rib WITH the original vin attached to the block!
