4a-ge, and an argument help me
ok gotten into a bit of an argument with somene

he is saying that 200bhp from a 4a-ge is going to be expensive to build and maintain, and is going to have a knife edge powerband like a vtec, and not all that reliable

i beleive that a 200bhp 4a-ge will have power throughout the rev range, and will be reliable

as my car sits just now i have power from about 4300rpm to 7700rpm

the way i see it
ITB set up
mapable ECU like vems
cams
manifold
exaust
filter
uprated fuel pump
adjustable fuel regulator
take out viscous
lightweight alternator pulley
remove aircon

what am i missing

and what aare the views of others?

trying not to go down forced induction here

i beleive 200bhp can be reliably obtained from a 4a-ge

The cheap hp/expensive hp line for the 4AG (no boost) is right around 160-170 crank hp.

What did you bet?

Hey, Dan?

Explain something to me. 200hp in a little car like this, wtf do you do with that? At 112hp it can do 140mph and even on the German highways that ought to be fast enough for most customers, considering how easily these things fold up.

So what do you do with 200hp? Get up to speed faster? OK, but then wouldn't it be easier to keep the stock engine, or push it up to 140hp or so, and then get the acceleration faster by (duh?) having a set of custom gears made up for it? Put a T50 on steroids, drop it back in the car, and you'd have a nice little sleeper...with the stock engine.<G>

No?

I'm probably going to keep the 4A-GE engine as close to original as possible. I've managed to get ahold of a 4AG-ZE engine that im putting into the car. Just going to use a month or two, cleaning the engine and upgrading its internals and change the thingy vs a spinny before mounting it in the car and going mad on it and squirt the numbfuck out of it. Smile
Im also aiming for 200hp. Anything above would be overkill, i'd recon. I'm still pondering about wich transmission solution would be best for a build like this.

I've got the recipee for the engine. Just need to sneak enough money past the lady to do it.

Kp62 - 135hp
Ae86 - 135hp
C32 Laurel - 440hp
C32 Laurel - 125hp

You know me Red...
112... that is a bit thin... 140... is just about perfect. Especially with 6 perfectly spaced gears.... Evil a suspension just taught enough(note... not lowered... just firm) with just enough adjustability to go from either side of neutral... Smile Smile

Dan-
Was it "oldeskewltoy" on c4ag or did you change from "old" to "olde" over here?
Six gears, hmmm....my sixth is reverse, what kinda gearbox did you sneak in? Did you make up those custom gears? Fess up now.<G>

Everyone I met says the same thing the original motor magazine reviews did about the T50 gearbox, very oddly spaced but once you figure out how to use it, very effective with this engine. Like, doing a 5-3 downshift on the highway to make up for not having another 35hp when you need to pass.<G>

yep... always been oldeskewltoy....

Don't tell me you haven't been following the trials and tribulations of oldeskewltoy trying to get the AZ6(99+ Miata trans) into his Corolla???
I've posted it in just about every AE86 community I'm in..... Take a peak....
