16V to 20V Blacktop (help!)
I've noticed that some of you have the 20V under the bonnet of your 86.

I'm thinking in the same thing, but I was wondering if anyone one could help me with a list of the parts necessary to make the swap.

The ideia is also to dismantle the engine and change all the gaskets and seals, and only then begin the swap.

Is it easy to find these parts? Where?

Best regards Wave

Check my Toda catalog, you will find a lot of parts for the 20v there.

I can also get you some kits for the water line relocation and distributor.

You can also keep the original 20V distributor but you will need to bang the firewall.

There was a complete install guide on this once, but I can not find it right now.

Thanks!

About the ignition , I'll probably discard the stock distributos and build another system.

And the waterlines will probably go below the intake manifold...

An instalation guide will really become handy! Smile

I need to know what extra parts I really need to make the engine fit in my 86 and the T50 tranmission.

I am waiting for some response to get the link for the swap.
There is everything explainde with pictures, really great write up.

I do not know if you can run the original water lines without banging the firewall crazy.

I would also advice to get a different ECU to get the most out of the engine, maybe some other cams.

Well, I already have a Megasquirt ECU and it's runnig fine right now.

About tunning the engine, I think maybe later.

If I can obtain 160hp (even being the 165hp unit) at the flywheel, I will be very very happy! It will be just enough for me, at least for now!

speed-inc, it would be great if you could get me that manual! Thumbs up!

Megasquirt will do also with the 20V.

I keep you posted about the write up.

Use the OEM ECU, MAP sensor and air horns, and custom fabricate an
intake plenum. Then you can use a simple pod filter and the engine will
run like a factory install Smile

Use the AE86 engine mounts. T50 bolts straight on AFAIK so long as
the flywheel is 212 dia. Install a spigot bearing. RWD exhaust manifold
bolts up with some small mods to the first and last fixing holes.

There is a bit of work involved in grafting the two engine looms
together, but it has been done many times. Good luck Thumbs up!

There was another write up once with even better pictures.
Maybe I can still find it.

Thanks a lot for all your help! Thumbs up!

I'll keep gathering more info about the swap.

jondee86:

Is this the standart diameter of the flywheel: 212 dia?

"Install a spigot bearing" : the original fwd 20v engine doesn't have it right?

Blacktop flywheel is 212 dia and will fit (just) into the 4A=>T50 bell
housing without any modifications. Lightest of the 4AGE flywheels too Smile

FWD engine does not have a spigot bearing fitted. It is just a standard
2RS bearing available for a few dollars from any bearing shop. You will
need to measure the inside and outside diameter, as I don't have a note
of the size. Otherwise buy it from an auto parts store. Tap it into the end
of the crankshaft until it stops moving.
